Day 10/40: The Heart of Worship

“Surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.” Romans 6:13b

True worship is when we give our whole self to God, complete surrender. Rick Warren describes how many people feel surrender is such a negative word and I completely disagree. I find it to be a beautiful word which requires profound strength, faith, and obedience. There are three main limitations that keep us from completely surrendering which are fear (this is the one for me...what if I give up control?!?), pride, and confusion. We need to know we can trust God and admit our limitations (we all have them, another hard thing for me to admit).

Surrender = Peace, freedom, and power.

The great paradox: Victory comes through surrender. Surrender doesn’t weaken you, it strengthens you.

The book talks a lot about surrender on this particular day but all I can think of is the old church hymn we would sing many Sundays. I thought the lyrics sum it all up beautifully.
